Life (April 2025)

The title for the April/May Exhibition is ‘Life’. Each piece is my observation and reflection about what that word actually means to me.

‘Life’ is grounded in the natural world and our relationships with it, and with each other. It is about love, loss, hope, despair, curiosity, challenge, humour, and rebirth. It is also about our work, our play, our communities and our country.

If we are fully engaged in ‘life’ then we will have our own unique thoughts and opinions and our own problems and solutions. Others will come from a different perspective and have their own ‘truth’. And that, I believe, is where art (much like music) has a role to play. Art should say something. It should prompt a discussion, a reflection, an exchange of ideas. Sometimes is can even make us uncomfortable.

This series of work offers a starting point for conversation. It is not a conclusion.

ME to WE … inspired by the words of Bryan Bruce (Documentary Maker/Writer NZ)
